Alcohol Free Gin Review - Can You Really Create A 100% Sober Gin And Tonic?

For whatever reason, you may have decided to reduce or eliminate your alcohol consumption. Regular drinking can be a steep slope, and drinking too much can have serious consequences for your physical and emotional health.

Overindulging in alcohol can cause fatigue, dull skin, weight gain, and depression - and these are simply the short-term impacts.

The long-term consequences of excessive alcohol intake are much more frightening.

However, abstaining from alcohol can be far easier said than done, since we spend so much of our social lives and leisure time with a cold glass of whiskey in hand.

Instead of completely discontinuing this aspect of your life, make it easier on yourself by moving to an alcohol-free substitute.

AF Drinks Are Getting Better

Top brands like Gordon's, Tanqueray, and Siegfried have recognised the benefit of offering tasty, realistic non-alcoholic spirits as an alternative due to the number of people who have already made the decision to a no-alcohol or low-alcohol lifestyle.

Because gin is the most popular spirit in many parts of the world, it seems to reason that it would also be the most popular category for alcohol-free alternatives, and there are numerous genuinely excellent ones available in 2022.

If you tried a non-alcoholic gin a few years ago and were turned off by the deeply unrealistic and downright awful flavour, rest assured that these cocktails have come a long way in recent years and are scarcely recognisable from the genuine thing.

The Real Taste Of Gin

Although this drink is marketed as a spirit rather than a gin, the combination of exotic botanicals, juniper, and floral overtones gives it an undeniably gin-like taste.

The top notes of juniper, coriander, and rose geranium combined with fresh water make the beverage sweet and refreshing without being loaded with sugar and additives, allowing you to wake up feeling as fresh as a daisy in the morning.

Tanqueray Alcohol Free Gin

Tanqueray has recently announced the release of an alcohol-free version of its legendary gin.

Tanqueray 0.0 percent claims to be the ideal non-alcoholic gin option because it is manufactured with the same botanicals as Tanqueray gin and tastes just as excellent in an ice-cold G&T.

Tanqueray's marketing director, Anita Robinson, stated, "As the maker of one of the world's top selling gins, we know that Tanqueray 0.0 percent is an experience that gin lovers will not want to miss, and we are incredibly proud to be bringing gin drinkers that juniper and citrus led taste they're expecting from Tanqueray when they choose not to drink alcohol."

Sober Drinks Are Big Money Now

"We're happy to offer Tanqueray 0.0 percent, which brings a wonderful alcohol-free choice, crafted with the distinctive botanicals used in Tanqueray London Dry," said Pippa Guy, Tanqueray GB Brand Ambassador.

"The beverage has a flavour that shows through in sophisticated cocktails, which means you don't have to sacrifice quality and taste if you don't drink alcohol." We're challenging barmen and customers to try it in order to believe it."

Tanqueray 0.0 percent in a 70cl bottle will set you back $25.00. There is no getting away from it, this price is ridiculously expensive. Think about it, there is zero alcohol duty being paid by the producers and so this is pure profiteering at the expense of sober folk.

The Big Problem

Finally alcohol free drinks are starting to be fairly decent. They have come a long way from the offensive offerings of a few years ago. However, there remains a big problem. Most alcoholic drinks taste disgusting, we simply learn to ignore this matter as addressing it would force us to face the reality of what we are doing.

I found when I was sipping my alcohol-free gin and tonic that I wasn't really enjoying the experience. After a while I realised that I was forcing myself to drink it.

I had spent so much money on this fancy AF bottle of pretend gin that I was determined to drink it purely to get value for my money. If I am honest the whole experience felt a little bit like taking medicine.

I can't see AF spirts holding a long term position in my sober drinks cabinet.

The odd 0,0 beer seems like a nice alternative to the real thing but I think alcohol free spirts may be a step too far. In the video I conclude that they are, well, pointless.
