By ‘empty calories‘ we mean they provide fuel but no nutritional value to your body. For example a banana has quite a large amount of energy but also sustains the body in various beneficial ways.

There is some debate over whether alcohol is fattening.

The drinks manufacturers argue that the body does not process alcohol into fat and it is simply filter out through our liver and kidneys.

This is true but it avoids some other significant things going on with the metabolism of a drinker. The body will burn the easiest form of fuel available first.

If you eat a sugary snack then the body will use this source of energy first before it will resort to the more laborious process of melting down fat or muscle tissue.

If your blood is full of high calories alcohol then this becomes the first source of fuel to the body.

Meaning the big meal you had for dinner and the bag of chips you sat eating in front of the TV goes straight to your ass.

When I stopped drinking I lost 50lbs of fat and replaced it with lean, healthy muscle. However, it didn’t happen automatically – I had to do something!

Once alcohol was not turning me into a big fat, lazy zombie on a daily basis. I found I had loads of time and energy on my hands.

I started going to the gym everyday.

Not because I felt like I had to, but rather I found myself with so much extra energy I had to find a way to dump some of it.

This sensation can be interpreted as a craving for sweets and sugar.

Beat this temptation by understanding and recognizing what is going on and use a distraction technique (eg. TFT) to get past the craving.

Losing weight is just another very pleasant byproduct of getting this attractively packaged poison out of your life.
