The fifth step is to admit to God, yourself, and another human being the exact nature of your wrongs. This is a difficult step to take, but it is essential for healing and forgiveness.

## Step 6: Becoming Willing to Let God Remove Defects

The sixth step is to become entirely ready to have God remove all of your character defects. This means letting go of your negative thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors.

## Step 7: Humbly Asking God to Remove Your Shortcomings

The seventh step is to ask God to remove your shortcomings humbly. This continuation of the sixth step involves asking for help to change your negative ways.

## Step 8: Making a List of All the People You’ve Harmed

The eighth step is to make a list of all the people you have harmed and become willing to make amends to them all. This involves acknowledging the people you have hurt and making amends for your actions.

## Step 9: Making Direct Amends to Those You’ve Harmed

The ninth step is to make direct amends to the people you have harmed, except when doing so would injure them or others. This means apologizing for your actions and trying to make things right.

## Step 10: Continuing to Take Personal Inventory

The tenth step is to continue to take personal inventory and when you are wrong, promptly admit it. This means staying honest with yourself and others and being willing to admit when you make mistakes.

## Step 11: Seeking Through Prayer and Meditation to Improve Your Conscious Contact with God

The eleventh step is to seek through prayer and meditation to improve your conscious contact with God as you understand Him. This means developing a spiritual relationship with a Power greater than yourself.

## Step 12: Carrying the Message to Others
